We would like to thank the Boise United RFC for coming out to Utah to play rugby with us. The RFC guys are quick and have great endurance. We appreciate the game time and look forward to playing more.
While the Salt Lake City Gladiators won the game 26-19, Boise took the win in sportsmanship. It was a tough back to back game full of muscle, quick feats from RFC and in the end some rough conduct that could end up getting the team fined. In a whole, the game was a great learning opportunity as we quickly get ready to move into the Utah Men's Premiership season.
It is a big reminder that there is no "I" in Rugby. Players interested in nations will be of greater quality when they can stick to the game plan, work as a team and play as a unit instead of trying to play the hotshot. The best players have been team players meaning someone who actively contributes to their group in order to complete tasks, meet goals or carry out the proper plays. Team players actively listen to their coaches, respect others and aim to improve the playing process at hand. Team players understand that their team’s success is their own success, and they share responsibility when their team experiences difficulties along the way.
Here are 6 Qualities in a Team Player:
Understand your role and know your spot on the team.
Hold yourself accountable
Follow the plans from the Coach or Captain
You are flexible
You have a positive attitude
You are committed to the team
Working well with others shows that you are committed to achieving both personal and team goals. Displaying consistent teamwork skills also shows strong sportsmanship, increasing your chances for acknowledgement. No matter your experience level or position, continuously focusing on becoming a better team player will lead to success in your sport.
Practices will be taking place throughout the week while preparing for the season. Please keep an eye on the group page for details. We are excited to see what the season has in store for the Gladiators.
Work hard, play strong and be proud to be a Gladiator! We will see you on the field!
